#JobAdviceSA was founded in May 2014 by Tim Barry, a British HR Technology and Social Media Recruitment consultant, Wesley Madziva, an Employment Solutions expert and Vanessa Raath, a South African Talent Hunter. It began as a weekly Twitter chat where the Founders took turns to host and answer questions regarding drafting CVs and cover letters, searching and applying for jobs, answering questions in interviews and deciding whether to accept a job offer.
Within a couple of years #JobAdviceSA evolved into a social media community for Career and Job Search advice, connecting Jobseekers, Recruiters and Employers, and the weekly Twitter chat regularly featured as the #1 Trending Topic in South Africa.
The community was featured on South African Government News and the founders were invited to speak at prestigious national events such as the APSO Annual Conference and nominated for awards such as Rising Star at the Future of HR Convention in 2017.
Elzette Fourie, a South African Recruitment Advertising and Marketing Specialist, joined the team in 2017, and she designed the logo that reflects the diverse nature of the community and country where it exists, The Rainbow Nation.
We are proud to have welcomed into our community numerous Employment and Job Search Experts, such as Zimbabwean Career and Life Coach Ennie Chipembere, who joined as Co-Host of the weekly Twitter chat in 2021, and featured leading employers, recruitment agencies and youth employment organisations such as OUTsurance, Liyema Consulting and Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator.
